Polytropos started as an idea back in 2010 as a platform for us to explore the deep well of traditional Irish and Scottish music and arrange it in ways that excited us. The goal was to bring out the best in our playing styles and instruments and to enthusiastically communicate the wonder of tunes and songs that had enchanted us from a young age. After a decade of playing and performing together we are thrilled to have a tangible record of that music to share with you!

The power of traditional music to convey feelings, stories and emotions endlessly captivates us. We always strive to establish a strong connection with our audiences and invite them to join our celebration of something rich, evocative and far older than ourselves. As a multi-instrumentalist duo we love the challenge of creating a full and dynamic musical experience for our listeners that expresses the meaning behind our name - a much-wandering thing of many twists and turns.

This album was recorded in a fashion that captures the energy of our live sound, playing into one microphone and with no overdubs. This is the Polytropos sound that we have had the enormous pleasure of playing to audiences throughout New Zealand.

We hope you enjoy our retelling of the stories recorded on this album - music that continues to propel and enrapture us.
